Six Nigerian companies have been admitted into the FTSE Frontier 50 Index, placing them among the 50 most liquid stocks across global frontier markets.
The companies are FirstHoldCo, Dangote Cement, MTN Nigeria, Aradel Holdings, Guaranty Trust Holding Company (GTCO), and Zenith Bank.
The FTSE Frontier 50 tracks 50 of the most liquid stocks across 26 frontier markets. The latest inclusion comes as Nigeria prepares to officially return to Frontier Market status on September 21, 2026, following its reclassification by FTSE Russell.
According to market data reported following the announcement, the six Nigerian companies had combined market values running into tens of trillions of naira, highlighting their size and importance on the Nigerian Exchange.
The admission is significant because inclusion in a major international index can increase a company’s visibility among global institutional investors and potentially attract additional investment from funds that track frontier-market benchmarks.
FirstHoldCo, Dangote Cement, MTN Nigeria, Aradel Holdings, GTCO and Zenith Bank will join the FTSE Frontier 50 effective September 21, 2026.
Nigeria’s return to the FTSE frontier-market classification marks an important development for the country’s capital market after a period in which the country was removed from the index provider’s market classification.
The Six Nigerian Companies
- FirstHoldCo Plc
- Dangote Cement Plc
- MTN Nigeria Communications Plc
- Aradel Holdings Plc
- Guaranty Trust Holding Company Plc (GTCO)
- Zenith Bank Plc
Four other Nigerian companies Stanbic IBTC Holdings, Nestlé Nigeria, Nigerian Breweries and Presco were also admitted to the broader FTSE Frontier Index Series but did not make the more selective Frontier 50.
The development further strengthens Nigeria’s visibility in international capital markets and could provide greater exposure for leading Nigerian companies to global investors.
