For a long time, I told myself I was being careful.
Careful with my words. Careful with my timing. Careful with my plans.
But if I am honest, I was not being careful. I was waiting for perfect.
Perfect clarity. Perfect confidence. Perfect conditions.
And while I waited, my life stayed on pause. Waiting for perfect feels responsible.
It sounds wise. It convinces you that you are preparing. But most times, it is just fear dressed up as patience.
Here is the truth I had to face. Perfect is not a destination you arrive at before starting. It is an illusion that disappears once you move.
Perfection does not create progress. Action does.
Every time I waited to feel ready, I stayed stuck. Every time I acted while unsure, I learned something useful. The shift began when I asked myself different questions.
Not “Is this perfect?” But “Is this honest?” “Is this helpful?” “Is this aligned with who I am becoming?” Those questions gave me permission to move.
I realized that perfection demands control, but growth requires humility. You have to be willing to look awkward.
To make mistakes. To create something that is not polished yet and let it teach you.
Waiting for perfect keeps you safe. Starting imperfectly helps you grow.
I also learned that perfection has a hidden cost. It delays your voice. It postpones your impact. It convinces you that your contribution does not matter until it is flawless.
But the people you are meant to help do not need your perfection.
They need your honesty. They need your consistency. They need your willingness to show up.
So if you are waiting for the right time, the right mood, or the right version of yourself, pause. The version of you that grows is the one that starts now.
Do it imperfectly. Do it gently. Do it scared.
Clarity will come. Skill will improve.
Confidence will build. But only after you begin.
