Kamo Challenges Power Minister Joseph Tegbe Over Persistent Blackouts, Demands Accountability

Nigerian entertainer and comedian Kamo has challenged the Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, over persistent electricity shortages across the country, calling on the minister to provide Nigerians with clear explanations and updates on the worsening power situation.

In his criticism, Kamo questioned the continued electricity disruptions and expressed concern over what he described as inadequate communication with Nigerians who depend on stable power supply for their homes, businesses and daily activities.

He argued that Nigerians deserve to know exactly what is responsible for the persistent blackouts, the challenges affecting electricity generation and distribution, and the practical steps being taken by the Federal Government to address the situation.

Kamo also compared the current communication approach with that of the minister’s predecessor, Adebayo Adelabu, saying the previous minister at least addressed the nation during electricity-related challenges.

He stressed that Nigerians were not demanding miracles but accountability, transparency and honest communication from the ministry, urging the minister to explain what was broken within the electricity sector and how the government intended to fix it.

However, Minister Joseph Tegbe has recently addressed the electricity challenges affecting several parts of the country, including Lagos, Abuja, Ogun, Kwara and Oyo states. He attributed the disruptions to planned maintenance at Egbin Power Station, gas supply constraints affecting thermal power plants and reduced electricity generation.

The minister also disclosed that damage to some critical transmission lines had restricted alternative electricity supply routes, particularly in parts of Lagos.

He said the government was working with relevant agencies and operators to restore affected generating units and improve supply, with an expectation that electricity availability would begin improving within 48 to 72 hours.

Despite the explanation, Kamo’s criticism reflects the growing frustration among electricity consumers who want more consistent supply, regular public updates and visible results from the authorities.

For millions of Nigerians, reliable electricity remains essential to economic activities, education, healthcare and household living. The public continues to expect lasting solutions rather than repeated explanations whenever the national power situation deteriorates.
