Popular Nigerian clergyman, Prophet Chukwuemeka Ohanaemere, widely known as Odumeje, has sparked widespread reactions online after openly calling out renowned pastors Enoch Adeboye of the Redeemed Christian Church of God and David Oyedepo of Living Faith Church for their silence on the current state of the nation.
In a viral video making rounds on social media, Odumeje criticized the two prominent men of God for their perceived quietness in the face of Nigeria’s economic hardship, insecurity, and social tension. He questioned why they were vocal during former President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration but have remained largely silent under the current government.
According to Odumeje, “During Jonathan’s time, many pastors spoke out against the government and called for change. But today, things are worse, and those same voices have gone silent. Why? Is the suffering of Nigerians not worth speaking about anymore?”
His statement has triggered a wave of mixed reactions from Nigerians, with some supporting his boldness for speaking truth to power, while others believe that spiritual leaders may have chosen to act in silence through prayers rather than public criticism.
Social commentators note that Odumeje’s remarks reflect growing frustration among citizens who feel abandoned by influential religious leaders in times of economic uncertainty and political instability.
