The Nigeria Police Force has issued a strong warning that any officer escorting Very Important Persons (VIPs) without official approval is on illegal duty and will be arrested. The Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO) disclosed that the police leadership has noticed an increasing number of officers attaching themselves to politicians, businessmen, and other influential individuals without authorization from the Inspector-General of Police.
According to the spokesman, such unauthorized escort activities violate police regulations, compromise manpower deployment, and undermine the discipline expected within the Force. He noted that the mandate of approving VIP escorts lies solely with the Inspector-General, and any officer found operating outside that structure will face disciplinary action.
The spokesman added that the crackdown is part of ongoing reforms aimed at restoring professionalism and accountability within the Nigeria Police Force. He also cautioned VIPs and private individuals against employing police officers illegally, warning that those who continue to receive protection from unauthorized personnel may also face legal consequences.
He emphasized that maintaining order and proper deployment of officers remains a top priority under the current police leadership, stressing that any violation will be met with swift enforcement.
