Police authorities in Niger State have officially confirmed a disturbing attack on St. Mary’s Private (Catholic) Secondary School, where several pupils were abducted by armed men. The incident, which took place in the early hours of the morning, has sparked widespread fear and renewed concerns about the growing wave of insecurity across the region.

According to the Niger State Police Command, the assailants invaded the school premises from a nearby bush path, overpowering local security and forcefully taking away students before escaping into the forest. At the moment, the exact number of abducted pupils remains unclear, but security agencies say investigations and rescue operations are already underway.

Residents around the school described the attack as traumatic, noting that gunshots and chaos forced many to flee and seek safety. Parents rushed to the school shortly after the news broke, crying and desperately seeking information about the whereabouts of their children.

Police officials have assured the public that a joint team of security operatives including police tactical units, military personnel, and local vigilante groups has been deployed for rapid response. They further emphasized that every effort is being made to track the kidnappers and safely rescue the abducted students.

The incident has once again highlighted the urgent need for improved school security, especially in communities frequently targeted by criminal gangs. Many Nigerians are calling on the government to intensify its fight against banditry and ensure that schools remain safe for children.

As rescue efforts continue, the police command has urged the public to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies. More updates are expected in the coming hours as the situation develops.
