In a bid to enhance collaboration and streamline the processes for registration and renewal, Regulatory for CSOs Operations and Strengthening of civil space for effective collaboration between non-governmental organizations (NGOs) / civil society organizations (CSOs), key stakeholders interfaced with the Osun State Ministry of Women Affairs. The meeting, held at the ministry’s Conference Hall, brought together representatives from various NGOs, CSOs, and government officials to discuss improved modalities for registration and renewal processes.

Comrade Micheal Olusesi Ebofin, President of the Network of NGOs in Osun State (NETNOS), emphasized the need for stronger cooperation between civil society groups and the government. Speaking on behalf of the network, he noted that many NGOs are facing challenges with registration and renewal, which hampers their ability to function optimally. “We believe that through constructive dialogue, we can work out a clear and efficient pathway that benefits both the government and civil society groups,” Ebofin stated.

Similarly, Comrade Waheed Lawal, Chairman of the Coalition for Civil Society Organizations in Osun State, voiced the concerns of CSO members, stressing that the current registration system requires more flexibility and transparency. He called for a more inclusive framework that allows for the seamless operation of CSOs within the state.

Representing the Ministry of Women Affairs, the Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Abimbola Babatunde, who spoke on behalf of the Commissioner, reassured the organizations that the government is committed to improving its relationship with NGOs and CSOs. She emphasized the ministry’s readiness to adopt reforms that will make the registration and renewal processes easier and more transparent. “We are fully aware of the challenges, and the ministry is committed to addressing them so that NGOs and CSOs can continue their vital work in our communities,” Mrs. Babatunde said.

Comrade Ebenezer Ige, Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to Osun State Governor on Civil Society Engagement, extended his goodwill for the success of the interface,
represented by his Personal Assistant. He commended the efforts of NGOs/CSOs in contributing to societal development and emphasized the importance of continued collaboration with the government to ensure seamless operations. He assured the groups of the state government’s commitment to supporting civil society initiatives and improving the framework for registration and renewals.
The session concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Henry Ogunbamiwo on behalf of the Network of NGOs in Osun State, expressing appreciation to the ministry for its openness to dialogue and commitment to improving the working relationship with civil society groups in the state.
The meeting marked a significant step towards creating a more robust partnership between the government and civil society organizations, ensuring smoother operations for NGOs and CSOs in Osun State.
