Ogbonnaya Onu, first regular citizen legislative leader of Abia, is dead
The primary non military personnel legislative head of Abịa State, Ogbonnaya Onu, is dead.
Mr Onu, who was the clergyman of science and innovation in the Muhammadu Buhari organization, kicked the bucket in an Abuja emergency clinic, as per the BBC Igbo News.
A relative told that the previous lead representative passed on early Thursday morning in an undisclosed emergency clinic in Abuja. He has been debilitated for quite a while. His family was wanting to fly him abroad for treatment before he passed on early today,” the source said.He hailed from Ụbụrụ in Ohaozara Neighborhood Government Area of Ebonyi State, South-east Nigeria.
Mr Onu graduated with a Five star Degree in Compound Designing from the College of Lagos State in 1976 preceding getting his doctorate in Synthetic Designing from the College of California, Berkeley four years after the fact.
He would later act as a teacher at the College of Port Harcourt, Waterways State where he rose to turn into the trailblazer Top of the Division of Compound Designing of the organization and later, acting dignitary of the designing workforce.
The 72-year-old started his political profession when he fruitlessly looked for a senatorial ticket of the now-outdated Public Party of Nigeria in the old Imo State.
He later challenged and was chosen the primary non military personnel legislative leader of the then-recently made Abia State in 1991 under the foundation of the Public Republic Show. He was confirmed January 1992.
The previous lead representative turned into the official competitor of the All People groups Party (Application) in 1999, yet surrendered his situation to Olu Falae after the ancient Application converged with another party, Partnership for A majority rule government.
In 2015, Mr Onu was designated as priest of science and innovation by the Nigerian president at that point, Mr Buhari. By 2019, he turned into the longest-serving pastor in the service with his reappointment in 2019 by Mr Buhari. The previous priest just left the situation in 2022 to challenge the official ticket of the All Moderates Congress which was won by Bola Tinubu, who at last arose as Nigerian president in the 2023 general races.
