A month after some towns in Niger State’s Shiroro local government area pledged allegiance to legendary bandit warlord Dogo Gide and his organization, more have followed suit and surrendered to the leader’s control. Following a peace meeting with the bandit commander, 36 villages announced their allegiance to the gang. Dogo Gide decided to allow the communities to reopen three major markets in the area that had been closed owing to security concerns. Kusasu, Iburo, and Chukuba markets are among those affected. The committee met with Ministry of Works officials before reaching its decision, which paid N1.8 billion to the contractor before departing the site. However, the contractor has only completed 53.7% of the work.
